Committed to Improving the Quality of Supporting Facilities, FMIPA UI Submits Laboratory Accreditation

Quality assurance and fulfillment of quality standards in the implementation of educational programs is very important in educational institutions, as an effort to be accountable to stakeholder and improving services to students.

In addition to participating in national and international academic accreditation, FMIPA UI sees the importance of Laboratory accreditation as a supporting facility for educational activities. Therefore, since 2021, FMIPA UI in coordination with the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (UPMA) and the Academic Field has begun to prepare laboratories at FMIPA UI to be submitted for accreditation from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).

After registering two laboratories, namely UI Chem and the Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics (CMPB), for KAN accreditation, there are several requirements and procedures that need to be better understood. For this reason, on Wednesday (6/4/2022) the UPMA unit chaired by Dr. Denny R. Silaban, M. Kom. held a KAN accreditation socialization event for the Heads of Departments, and Heads/PICs of Laboratories within the FMIPA UI environment. This socialization is also open to heads/PICs of laboratories and facilities within the UI environment.

Also present at the event were Dr. Dwi Marta Nurjaya, S.T., M.T. Director of Operations and Maintenance of Facilities, University of Indonesia and Prof. Winarto, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, FT UI.

The socialization was opened by Dr. Ttito Latif Indra, S. Si. as the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration.

In his speech, Dr. Tito said, “We hope that this meeting will bring benefits to FMIPA UI and efforts to fulfill KAN standards for laboratories at FMIPA UI.”

Dr. Tito also said that currently FMIPA UI has 38 laboratories consisting of Education Laboratories and Service Laboratories.

Present as a resource person Fajarina Budiantari, S.TP., M.Si. as the Director of Laboratory Accreditation at the National Standardization Agency (BSN) welcomed the efforts of FMIPA UI in submitting several of its laboratories to obtain accreditation. She considered the effort as a commitment that deserves to be appreciated.

“I am proud and welcome the efforts of FMIPA UI which stated that it would process accreditation, then it was also said earlier that FMIPA UI is committed to improving the quality of the laboratory,” said Fajarina.

On the same occasion, Fajarina explained about the KAN Profile, Standardization & Conformity Assessment, Competency Verification of Conformity Assessment Institutions, Policies, Requirements, and Procedures for KAN Accreditation.

The FMIPA UI laboratories that are in the process of KAN accreditation are the UI-Chem Laboratory from the Department of Chemistry and the Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics (CMPB) Laboratory from the Institute of Applied Sciences (LST). This was conveyed by Dr. Denny as the head of UPMA to the FMIPA UI public relations team.

“So the plan is, in the near future the UI Chem Laboratory will undergo a visitation in June, and the CMPB Laboratory is currently still completing the documents as an administrative requirement,” he said.
