FMIPA UI and FST UNAIR Exchange Educational and Research Practices

As one of Indonesia’s leading science faculties, FMIPA UI continues to strengthen inter-university collaboration and share best practices. One concrete example of this effort took place on Tuesday (2/12), when the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universitas Airlangga (FST UNAIR) visited the Depok Campus for benchmarking in academic management, student affairs, research, and faculty governance.

The FST UNAIR delegation was led by Vice Dean I, Prof. Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, M.Si., Ph.D., accompanied by Vice Dean II, Prof. Dr. Suryani Dyah Astuti, Head of the Master’s Program in Biology, Anjar Tri Wibowo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Head of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Eva Hariyanti, S.Si., M.T. They were welcomed by FMIPA UI’s Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, along with the faculty leadership.

In his remarks, FMIPA UI’s Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, expressed a warm welcome and emphasized the importance of exchanging ideas between universities. “We warmly welcome our colleagues from FST UNAIR. Hopefully, this meeting will serve as a forum for sharing best practices while also opening up opportunities for future collaboration,” said Prof. Budiawan.

Prof. Mochamad Zakki Fahmi emphasized FST UNAIR’s commitment to strengthening the quality of academic management through benchmarking. “This visit is very important for us. We want to learn firsthand how FMIPA UI manages academic programs, student affairs, supporting facilities, and research initiatives. By doing so, we can adapt best practices within FST UNAIR and enhance the academic quality and governance of our faculty,” he said.

The event continued with a presentation of FMIPA UI’s academic profile by the Manager of Cooperation and Alumni Relations, Ventura. He explained various programs, achievements, and faculty development strategies, which then served as the basis for an intensive discussion between the two faculties.

The discussion covered FMIPA UI’s strategies in addressing sustainability and environmental management issues, the adaptation of MBKM and IISMA policies, the declining interest of prospective science students, as well as mental-health programs for lecturers and administrative staff. Research topics, publications, and lecturer grant funding were also discussed in depth.

To conclude the visit, representatives from FST UNAIR expressed their hope that the relationship between the two faculties can be strengthened through concrete collaborations, including student exchanges, joint research, as well as the preparation and signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) in the future.
