UI FMIPA Students Win 1st Place in Telkomsel Youth Competition

Alexander Tianara, a Biology student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, won first place in the IndonesiaNEXT 2047 event. This achievement was announced at the awards ceremony.

After competing against more than 11,000 participants, Alexander was finally selected as one of the top 10 participants, eligible for a short courseatStanford University in San Francisco, USA. He also received a certificate of expertise that can be used as a Diploma Supplement (SKPI).

Alexander stated that for this session, he chose a theme that aligned with his academic background: biology. He proposed the idea of packaging starter packs made from recycled paper with seeds. “I’m trying to combine the biology I learned in college to increasethe market valueof Telkomsel, a telecommunications company,” he said.

He felt numerous benefits after participating in the IndonesiaNEXT training. “I feel like a different person after participating in this activity. I speak more structured, think more critically, get used to asking questions, am more open, and so on,” he explained. He hopes more UI students can experience what he did at IndonesiaNEXT.

Alexander had previously undergone several selection and training sessions covering four areas of interest:Design Communication, Visual Communication, Powerful Presentation, andManagement Presentation.Initial participants were recruited from six cities in Indonesia (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Makassar).

The Top 5from each city were then gathered to participate in the National Bootcamp on January 11-19, 2017. The National Bootcamp consisted of a series ofadvanced communication skilltraining , critical thinking, English,company visits, anda qualification panel(Q-Panel) that tested students’ innovation abilities. Among the judges involved in the Q-Panel session were Adita Irawati (VP Corporate Communications Telkomsel), Erwin Parengkuan (Fouder TALKinc) and Rika Indra Oktaviani (VP of Marketing Go-Jek).

Indonesia Next is a program initiated by Telkomsel that aims to improve the competency of Indonesian students in facing global competition. These competencies are developed through seminars, panel discussions,sharing sessions, and training aimed at deepening knowledge in their chosen fields.
