The University of Indonesia (UI) basketball team, consisting of 15 students from various faculties, won the City Series, or regional title, in the LA Campus League (LACL), the largest inter-college basketball league in Indonesia, held from March 9-14, 2020, at The Hawk Arena, BSD, Tangerang.
The City Series is a series of activities and an extension of previous LACL programs. This year’s city series marks the first of its kind within the LACL.
The purpose of this city series is to attract more participants (teams) by increasing the number of cities or regions from previous years. This will ultimately lead to the national Campus League in 2020.
The UI team is dominated by six students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The remainder are students from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Law of Law (FH), and Vocational Programs.
This was revealed by one of the team members, Athallah Ghiffary Nasution, a student in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia.
Athallah explained to the FMIPA UI public relations team that he and his teammates had two months to prepare before the competition. During those two months, he and his team practiced using opponents outside the team (sparring), competing in matches that mimicked real competition.
“The preparation took approximately two months, including training and sparring with other teams,” Athallah said.
Athallah’s hard work and teamwork in this city series were rewarded with 5 million rupiah.
