65 Years of FMIPA UI: Nurturing Traditions, Advancing Science, Strengthening Impact

Depok, 24 January 2026 — A different atmosphere filled the campus of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), on Saturday morning. The area, usually quiet and calm on weekends, was this time alive with laughter, warm greetings, and smiles of togetherness. The forecourt of the FMIPA UI Main Lecture Building transformed into a space for cross-generational gatherings, bringing together the academic community, administrative staff, students, and alumni in a friendly and convivial atmosphere.

In this warm atmosphere, FMIPA UI held the peak celebration of its 65th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) under the theme “Science Reborn: Excellent and Impactful for Indonesia.” The event, held at the forecourt of the Main Lecture Building (Building B) on the FMIPA UI Campus in Depok, marked FMIPA UI’s long journey of 65 years of contribution to higher education and the advancement of science.

The peak celebration was a continuation of the 65th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) series of FMIPA UI, which had been officially opened on Friday, 19 December 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall, FMIPA UI. During the opening event, FMIPA UI held a scientific lecture on disaster management and a tumpeng-cutting ceremony as an expression of gratitude for FMIPA UI’s journey spanning more than six decades.

Various members of the FMIPA UI community came together and mingled during the celebration—including faculty leadership, lecturers, administrative staff, students, alumni, and partner organizations. The sense of togetherness was further enhanced through a variety of activities, such as a fun walk, group exercise, line dancing, musical performances, and door prize giveaways. Around the event area, 26 MSME bazaar tenants also contributed to the lively atmosphere, bringing energy and vibrancy that made Saturday morning at FMIPA UI truly come alive.

Amid the festive celebration, FMIPA UI also recognized outstanding lecturers, students, and administrative staff, honoring a total of 130 award recipients. The awards were presented for various achievements, including the Most Productive Journal Article Publication in 2025 by Corresponding Author in Scopus-indexed journals, Best Community Service Lecturer of 2025, the top three EDOM scores across all departments, Student Mentoring Lecturers, Lecturers with Patents, highest achievement in BKD fulfillment, and Best Department-Level Excellent Service in 2025.

In addition, the Outstanding Leadership Award (Best Leader Award) was presented to leaders, managers, department heads, and program heads for the 2022–2025 and 2023–2026 periods. Awards were also given to Outstanding Administrative Staff and High-Achieving Students in both academic and non-academic fields. For the student category, appreciation certificates were received by representatives.

In his remarks, the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., conveyed that the 65th Anniversary celebration held special significance, as it marked the first Dies Natalis since his election as Dean of FMIPA UI.

“The 65th Anniversary of FMIPA UI is a special moment and also my first Dies Natalis as Dean. This event is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to strengthen synergy and togetherness among the academic community, administrative staff, alumni, and all FMIPA UI partners in realizing an FMIPA UI that is excellent and impactful for Indonesia,” said Prof. Tito.

On this occasion, Prof. Tito also introduced the FMIPA UI Vice Deans: Prof. Anom Bowolaksono, Ph.D., as Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum, S.Si., M.Si., as Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration.

In addition to the series of celebrations, the event was also marked by the handover of two water purifier units from PAM JAYA to FMIPA UI. The handover was symbolically conducted by PAM JAYA’s Director of Finance and General Affairs, Tedy J. Sitepu, to the Dean of FMIPA UI. The water purifiers are planned to be installed in the Main Lecture Building (Building B) area of FMIPA UI.

The Dean of FMIPA UI expressed his appreciation for PAM JAYA’s support in promoting environmental sustainability on the campus.

“We extend our gratitude to PAM JAYA for this support in the form of water purifiers. This initiative aligns with FMIPA UI’s commitment to promoting a sustainable campus and raising the academic community’s awareness of the importance of responsible water resource management,” said Prof. Tito.

Meanwhile, Tedy J. Sitepu explained that the use of water purifiers is a concrete step toward maintaining environmental sustainability.

“The advantage of this water purifier is that it reduces reliance on groundwater for drinking water. Continuous use of groundwater can lead to land subsidence. By using this device, we also support environmental conservation efforts, as its system is more environmentally friendly and sustainable,” he explained.

The peak celebration of FMIPA UI’s 65th Anniversary was also attended by Dr. Rasio Ridho Sani, Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia; Adi Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Chair of the FMIPA UI Academic Senate; the Professors; Heads of Departments within FMIPA UI; as well as Dr. Sri Mardiyati, Member of the Universitas Indonesia Board of Trustees (MWA) for the 2019–2024 period.

Through the 65th Anniversary celebration, FMIPA UI reaffirmed its commitment to remain actively engaged in the development of science and knowledge that is excellent, innovative, and capable of delivering tangible impacts for society and for Indonesia.
